Stream Energy / Ignite Wins Entrepreneur Award from SMU
The Stream Energy / Ignite family has been selected as one of the Top Ten honorees of the Dallas 100™ Entrepreneur Awards, presented by the Southern Methodist University Caruth Institute for Entrepreneurship on November 20 at a gala celebration and dinner in Dallas.
Jerry F. White, Director of the Dallas 100 Entrepreneur Awards, said Stream Energy / Ignite was chosen because it is among Dallas’ fastest growing, most dynamic privately held companies.
Since it was licensed by the Texas Public Utilities Commission as a Retail Electric Provider in early 2005, Stream Energy, along with its marketing arm Ignite, has grown from 65,000 customers in its first year of business to approximately 330,000 today. The company, which received permission to market natural gas in Georgia this year, reached $1 billion in total revenues during 2008.
Stream Energy’s success is attributable to a full-service approach to customer relationships, supported by a customer-advantageous pricing model and the company’s network marketing subsidiary, Ignite.
Through Ignite’s marketing plan, individuals serving as Independent Associates market Stream Energy’s products to friends and family members. This approach has resulted in unprecedented growth for Stream Energy and Ignite, and has created an important outlet where individuals can earn income.
The honor from the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University is the latest recognition of Stream Energy and Ignite’s phenomenal record of success during the past four years.
Stream Energy was a recipient of the Greater Dallas Chamber of Commerce Momentum Award in 2007 for its significant contributions to the area workforce. The company’s employee rolls have grown from 114 in 2005 to more than 340 today.
Other recent accolades include the 2008 Entrepreneur of the Year Award for the Southwest Region by Ernst & Young and The Dallas Morning News’ recognition of the company as among the 50 largest private companies in the Dallas-Fort Worth region. Stream Energy has also twice been named a finalist for the prestigious international Platts Global Energy Rising Star Award (2007 and 2008).
Rob Snyder, Co-founder and Chairman, said that the honor from SMU’s Caruth Institute for Entrepreneurship is very gratifying. “The rise of Stream Energy and Ignite can be attributed to people who know that success is most often the result of hard work and persistence,” he said. Stream Energy Co-founder Chris Domhoff added, “It means a lot to all of us to see our hard work being recognized.”
Stream Energy Co-founders Rob Snyder, Chris Domhoff and Pierre Koshakji received the entrepreneur award from SMU during special ceremonies and a gala dinner at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center.
Stream Energy
Since being licensed as a Retail Electric Provider by the Public Utilities Commission in early 2005, privately held Stream Energy has grown rapidly into one of the largest participants in the Texas deregulated electricity market, with approximately 330,000 residential customers. Earlier this year, Stream Energy expanded its operations into Georgia where the company provides natural gas for customers in Atlanta and a wide variety of cities throughout the state. Stream Energy’s success is attributable to a full-service approach to customer relationships, supported by a customer-advantageous pricing model and the company’s network marketing subsidiary, Ignite. Additional information is available on the Stream Energy website at www.streamenergy.net.
Ignite, Inc.
Ignite was founded in 2004 to handle marketing of energy for Stream Energy. When Stream Energy was licensed in 2005 as a Retail Electric Provider in Texas, Ignite began developing a network of independent associates to market electricity directly to the families, friends and individuals they know. Ignite’s multi-level marketing strategy was created in order to provide personal service for customers and to help customers better understand the benefits of energy deregulation. In less than four years, Ignite’s team of independent associates has grown to exceed 100,000. Earlier this year, Stream Energy was licensed to sell natural gas in Georgia, and Ignite has initiated the same successful one-on-one system for marketing energy there.
